Welcome to the First European Forensic Entomology Seminar organised by the National Gendarmerie 

In December 2001, I learned that the Forensic entomology department of the criminal research institute had been chosen by European Union to organise a seminar.

At this time, I had not imagined that we could gather such specialists in this field, representatives of so various Forensic science institutes and crime scene specialists, coming from 13 countries. 

It is a great honour to have Doctor M. LECLERCQ as Main president of this seminar, the Head of the National Gendarmerie (represented by General LEPETIT) as President of the main committee, composed by : Mr P. TRUCHE, Major General J.-M. DENIZOT, Mr B. PAGES, Superintendent C. JALBY, Brigadier General P. BEDOU, Colonel P. MASSELIN, Colonel S. CAILLET, Prof. L. MATILEU and Sergeant Major J. SALONU.

 As the president of the organising committee, I thank each of them for coming and give a date to all other people interested in developing this forensic discipline all over Europe. 

I am very grateful for the help and support that I was given by our Director, Colonel S. CAILLET, , Lieutenant-colonel G. ROUILLON, head the C division (to which belongs our department) and the different units of the Institute involved in the organisation of this event. 

I especially thank all of my fellow-workers: L. DOUREL, B. CHAUVET, T. PASQUERAULT, J.-B. MYSKOWIAK, F. LEFEBVRE and B. VINCENT. 

Special thanks to the other members of the organising committee: J.-J. MENIER, J. AMENDT and C. WYSS.
